Racial Trauma

Racial trauma is a potential consequence of overt and covert acts of racial discrimination towards people of Color, leading to negative psychological and physical health effects on the body (Comas-Diaz, 2016). Because many counselors have not been trained to identify, let alone treat racial trauma (Hemmings & Evans, 2018) we aim to expand the current literature focused on assessment and treatment interventions. We will provide suggested tools for assessment and use case studies of experienced counselors who have worked with clients to treat racial trauma.
